Zach Hill - Face Tat [2010]

For those who don't know, Zach Hill is the drummer of the legandary math/spazz rock band Hella, and aside from his band he's been very prolific too (playing with Marnie Stern, Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, side-project Bygones, to name a few). This is his second solo album, featuring his insane drumming, and collaborations with names such as Devendra Banhart, No Age, Guillermo Scott Herren (Prefuse 73), Greg Saunier (Deerhoof), Carson McWhirter (Hella), Nick Reinhart (Tera Melos, Bygones) and Robby Moncrieff (Raleigh Moncrieff). It's a melting pot of math rock, noise, spazzy jams and electronic soundscapes, highly recommendable for lovers of more extreme contemporary genres.

For fans of: Hella, Don Caballero, Battles, Marnie Stern, Lightning Bolt, math rock, weird stuff

So Many Dynamos - The Loud Wars [2009]

I accidentally stumbled upon this album and it's a really positive surprise. So Many Dynamos are a very danceble indie rock band that really reminds me of late 90s/early 00s DC bands like The Dismemberment Plan or Q and Not U. Both with their vibrant trancey rythmic escapades, stabbing synths and meandering post-punk guitar treatment that could be traced to early Devo or Talking Heads. It's more than a sum of it's parts since all songs are incredibly catchy.

For fans of: The Dismemberment Plan, Q and Not U, Foals, Talking Heads, Pretty Girls Make Graves, DANANANANAYKROYD, Klaxons, all that rubbish they call nu rave & such

Les Savy Fav - Root for Ruin [2010]

This cult indie rock outfit fronted by a bearded bald lunatic we've all grown to love (and one of my personal favorite bands) have nailed it again. Excellent album with idiosyncratic songs that balance between noise, post punk and pure pop nectar that could breathe life into any party and ring in your ears for the following days. Accept these guys into your life and you'll be a richer person.

Deerhunter - Halcyon Digest [2010]

Deerhunter's latest album, probably most lethargic to date. Check out the link down for the track Desire Lines. It's excellent and a nice invitation card for the rest of the record. Highly recommended.

Gold Panda - Unreleased Medical Journal [2010]

Gold Panda’s journey has been a long and intermittently strange one. Initially, the Essex, UK artist spent his day-job time behind the counters of various houses of ill repute—adult bookstores, record shops—finding that the two were equally seedy. He spent the rest of his waking hours building up a library of original, dizzyingly eclectic electronic music incorporating a disparate mix of influences and source material. The results were gleaming instrumental hip-hop tracks saturated with bright colors and sublimely chopped-up vocal samples. Thus, Gold Panda was born.

Having built up a sufficient volume of music, Gold Panda began leaking remixes to various labels, blogs, and tastemakers, all of whom instantly took notice. More remixes—for the likes of Little Boots, Telepathe, Bloc Party, Simian Mobile Disco, HEALTH, and The Field—followed. Soon, he began releasing own tracks, including the “Miyamae” 12” on Various, the acclaimed “Quitters Raga” 7” on Make Mine, and the “Before” digital single on Puregroove. In 2010, Gold Panda has released the You EP—featuring remixes from Osborne, Seams, Dam Mantle, and Minotaur Shock—on Ghostly International.

This is a CDR of his unreleased songs prior to his full-length debut, Lucky Shiner (to be posted soon).

For fans of: Caribou/Manitoba, Four Tet, Yppah, Small Black, Wahed Out, Memory Tapes, Dntel, Morr Music artists etc.

Medications - Completely Removed

Medications are the current incarnation of the legendary Washnigton, DC band Faraquet, a band that fueled a lot of fresh ideas into the post-hardcore idiom of their local scene, making them one of the staples of what is today known as math-rock. This is their second album under this name and they've got a batch of songs that shows their old vibrant math rock recipe spiced up with tight songcraft, angular rhythms, guitar lines and melodies that round up in arrangments that manage to be catchy while they're complex and intricate. Their poppiest and probably most accessible record to date, without watering down the brew. :)

For fans of: Fugazi, Q and Not U, Faraquet (duh), Pretty Girls Make Graves, math rock, post-hardcore, DC scene

No Age - Everything in Between [2010]

Second album from this noisy/artsy indie-rock duo. The're still as catchy as ever on this record. Their immediate punk rockers seem a bit deeper with an expanded sense of dynamics, texture and atmosphere, similar to their buddies Deerhunter. Anyway, a great album. Enjoy!

Team Ghost - Celebrate What You Can't See EP [2010]

New band from Nicolas Fromageau, one of the founding members of M83. This is their second EP, and it's lush, epic, yet subtle and dreamy, just like any proper shoegaze record should be.

Wolf People - Tidings [2010]

British psychedelic rock reminiscent of the late 60's and 70's bands by style and the vintage feel of the sound (the equipment on the cover says it all). This is a compilation of their early singles and EPs.
